I spoke to a close friend today and he said something that greatly disturbed me. Okay it made me so upset I had to write this while thinking, "What the F@#K?!"I was looking at a catalogue of upcoming seminars given by some VERY famous and successful people.I called one of my best friends and asked him if he wanted to go. His answer, to say the least Pissed Me Off!He said, "Oh, I'm not gonna' waste my money on that seminar, that guy just got lucky. Dude, some people just get lucky!" Well, why did he have to go and say that to ME of all people???I said, "Listen Bro, I came from being a homeless runaway to pretty successful AND I'm marrying the girl of my dreams!" Am I lucky? Nope, I've earned everything I own and have. I'm no millionaire but I WILL be.
The person he didn't want to go see at the seminar is a VERY successful, famous, multi-millionaire entrepreneur. In addition to that the fee was pennies in comparison to the opportunity to meet and speak to this man. When I say pennies, I mean that people spend more on a pair of jeans! So, what IS the truth about luck? The truth is that luck is not a random event and it can be proven many different ways. Many very successful entrepreneurs may say that they were lucky but, they as well as I, know better. What many call luck is really what I call a statistical occurrence that only happens after a specific action is taken. This action may not have been a calculated decision but it is an action towards a desired result.
I recently wrote about this in an article called How Thoughts Creates Matter that mentions how "Luck Like" things tend to happen when people take action towards a specific goal or objective. Even Lottery winners are not lucky. They took a specific action in choosing or not choosing the numbers on their ticket and then purchasing it. Their prize is a statistical occurrence. Nothing more or nothing less. The real truth of the matter is that most people get so caught up in their own distaste for their own "self determined" situation that they believe that there is some unanswerable reason for the success of others.Shallow men believe in luck.
Strong men believe in cause and effect. Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it. Thomas Jefferson To get "Lucky" here's what you should do.Decide what you want, create a plan to get it and then DO IT! Once you keep at it for a while success, Ahem, I mean Luck will occur. Not only that but Uhhh, Luck will begin to snowball in your favor! Then and only then my friend, you will have the privilege of being called a "Lucky" person who "Just Got plain Lucky!".
It's a Wonderful Life
It's a Wonderful LifeIn November 1996 I was made redundant from a senior role within the Investment banking industry; I felt lost. I looked for a new role in the newspapers and with many recruitment agencies, nothing even sparked my interest. No surprise, I was unsuccessful at all interviews, there was not a new job for me.In February 1997 I got the message that changed my life forever. At the insistence of a close friend I had gone to visit Jean Clarke, a Colonic therapist. During the first minute of my initial visit to Jean, she said had a message for me, but was dubious about giving me the message. I insisted.
The message was that the man in front of her (me) felt his life was over and the affect of this would be this. Within two years I would become seriously ill and die within five years. Even the love of for my wife and two young sons would not be enough to keep me here. I had given none of this personal information to Jean.I was shaken; Jeans' message resonated with me as...

Who are the Deal or No Deal Models?
Deal or No Deal's massive success is not something anyone could have predicted. Let's be honest here, the actual Deal or No Deal game is pretty darn stupid. There is no skill involved, unless you count "not being a moron" as a skill. It's the equivalent of watching someone play roulette or blackjack; sure it's intriguing, but it's not intellectually stimulating. So, why is it so popular? One answer is that we are a nation of idiots and simple, mind-numbing shows are the ones best suited for the masses.
However, I think that explanation is needlessly cynical. One of things that certainly contributes to the success of Deal or No Deal are the Deal or No Deal models.
Yes, the models. They are beautiful and abundant. The way they slowly open those briefcases with their signature deft touch is truly awe inspiring. Frankly, the Deal or No Deal models make the show.
Without them, what would you have? A lot of unopened briefcases, for one. My interest in the Deal or No Deal...

The Work-from-home Fashion Primer
Last week, I reported how writers, stay-at-home parents and online marketing geeks had chosen careers as hermits: http://www.thehappyguy.com/hermit.htmlThousands of work-from-home hermits responded, confessing that they were wearing their pajamas while reading my column. Fortunately very few sent me photos. Here are some of the questions they asked:Q: Is it acceptable to wear pajamas at high noon if Nobody sees me, or am I committing a fashion faux-pas.A: It is totally acceptable to wear pajamas at high noon. You can even wear them at low noon. In fact, you can wear them all day long.
The only exception is in England you must not wear pajamas at tea time. Pajamas and tea don't mix. The combination can be lethal. (See the November 2002 report: "Spontaneous combustion among British work-at-home hermits.")Q: How should I handle "casual Fridays" in my workplace?A: I have replaced casual Fridays with "formal Thursdays...

A Country Boy?s View on Fashion
I still can't understand it. After all these years, I can't make a lick of sense out of what folks consider to be in or out of fashion ? appropriate or inappropriate attire or appearance. What was "in" last year, might be "out" this year ? or it might be in but you need to change what you wear with it. What was OK for spring and summer probably won't work well for fall and winter - weather considerations aside. And what is in was likely already in somewhere around 20 or so years ago but then it went out so something else could be in.
And why don't they just come right out and say FAKE fur instead of trying to dress it up with a fancy foreign word? Thank God for jeans?I gotta find the Fashion Holy Book. I know there has to be one out there somewhere that says that it's a sin to wear the same thing as you wore last year. Or maybe it's just sometimes that it's a sin. I dunno. All I know is that the ladies section has to be really big.
Like maybe everything but the last seven...
